St. Mary’s Temperanceville Invites Community for Annual Picnic

The St. Mary’s Temperanceville annual picnic is next up on Sunday, July 27. It is always a homecoming and a day filled with good food, bingo and prizes.

Dinners will be served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the St. Mary Temperanceville Church. Guests are welcome to stay after the meal for socialization.

BBQ chicken and roast beef dinners with sides are $15 each. Take out orders are welcome, including whole chickens at $12. There will also be a baked goods stand during the festival.

There will be a Bingo game and a raffle. Most of the raffle prizes are cash, with the top prize $1,000. There will be instant Bingo tickets as well.

People can stay up to date and see a copy of the tickets on the church’s Facebook page.

Office Administrator Mary Anne Stephens, said the community and other volunteers work hard to put the picnic on every year. Donna Hill, her children and grandchildren take care of the chicken, and other parishioners and volunteers take care of the rest of the meal.

“I think this is a time for families and friends to come together and just celebrate each other,” Stephens said.

For those coming in from Monroe County to the south, SR 379 is closed just south of Temperanceville. Take County Road 10 north in Monroe County off SR145. Once you cross into Belmont County, the road becomes County Road 128. Continue north through the village of Boston then turn onto SR 379 south to Temperanceville.

Temperanceville Parish is the second oldest in the entire state of Ohio. It was founded by Irish settlers in 1822. Only St. Joseph’s Parish in Somerset, Perry County, is older.
