Healthy Hellbender Salamanders Populate Captina Creek

In a recent hellbender salamander survey, teams found healthy, juvenile salamanders and eggs in Captina Creek in Belmont County. 

The Ohio State University, Columbus Zoo and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources conducted a recent survey for the Eastern Hellbender salamander, replicating and expanding on a survey done in 2009. This is a two-year survey, and agencies just finished their first field season.
