Dysart’s Woods Hike Set for February 2

The Captina Conservancy is kicking off 2025 with a new hiking series- the first Sunday of every month we’ll be hosting a guided a hike at Dysart Woods. This first walk will take place on Sunday, February 2 at 2:00.

Come watch the seasons change, get to know your local woods, meet some new friends, and keep moving! Every month’s hike will have a different theme- this month is Intro to Dysart!

The hike will take about two hours and includes some uneven trails and steep hills. Please bring sturdy shoes and weather appropriate gear. Hikes will be held rain, (snow!), or shine! Water will provided before and after the hike. Well-behaved dogs on leashes are welcome. Email Marshall with questions at: dysartwoods@captina.org  
Note: there are currently no restroom facilities at Dysart Woods so plan accordingly

Barnesville Depot Committee Meeting – January 27

A 2025 launch meeting for the Barnesville Depot Committee will take place Monday, January 27 at 5:00 in the depot. Jake Hershberger and Kristina Estle, current officers for the organization, will conduct the meeting.

State Theater Company Meeting – January 28

The volunteers of the Barnesville State Theater Company will gather at the Barnesville Library Annex for a meeting on Tuesday, January 28 at the Barnesville Library Annex. Individuals interested in helping move the theater project forward as invited to join members at the meeting.

Pasture Management Workshop on Tap

(ST. CLAIRSVILLE) – Has your farm been affected by the drought?

Belmont Soil and Water Conservation District, along with the Ohio Department of Agriculture and the Natural Resource Conservation Service, will be offering a workshop to discuss pasture management and how to prepare for extreme weather events in the future.

Rescheduled due to Inclement Weather. This workshop will be held at 6:00 on Wednesday, Jan. 29 at the Belmont Soil and Water office, located at 45422 Roscoe Road, St. Clairsville at the Belmont County Fairgrounds.

Pennyroyal Opera House Features Junior Sisk

The Pennyroyal Opera House will host a bluegrass show on Friday, January 31 featuring Junior Sisk.

Junior Sisk is widely recognized as one of today’s top bluegrass vocalists and is a constant reminder that traditional bluegrass is still alive and well. A longtime resident of the Virginia Blue Ridge, his bluegrass pedigree runs deep. Influenced by a father who wrote songs and played guitar and a mother who sang, Sisk first learned to play around age 14. His early influences included The Stanley Brothers, Larry Sparks, and Dave Evans, but he often credits the Johnson Mountain Boys with inspiring him to pursue bluegrass professionally.

The opening band will be New Mountain Heritage.

The kitchen and doors open at 5pm and the show begins at 7:00pm. Tickets are $20 per person, 12 and under are free.

Wings, Desserts, and Giving Back – February 2

Join the members of the Flushing Fire Department on Sunday, February 2 from 12 Noon to 4:00 for a Wings and a Dessert Auction benefiting the department.

Bid on the sweetest treats in town and join the auction at 3:00. Traditional and boneless wings and fresh cut French fries and drinks are available for purchase during the four-hour event,

“We are seeking dessert donations for our upcoming auction. Support FVFD and showcase your baking skills. Dessert that gets the highest bid will receive a trophy and bragging rights”.

Anyone who would like to donate desserts and help the department please reach out.

Blood Drive at WVU Medicine/Barnesville Hospital

Great Stone Viaduct Lecture Series Launch – February 5

All lectures take place at the Bellaire Public Library The eight-week series takes place on Wednesday evenings at 6:00 from February 5 through March 26.

  • February 12 – Bellaie native and author Kurt Turner
  • Febraury 19 – Why we went to War in 1812  
  • February 26 – A historic district for downtown Bellaire
  • March 5 – The peopling of North American and beyond

  • March 26 – West Virginia mining history

Belmont Farmer Breakfast Series – February 6

 OSU Extension Belmont County and Belmont Soil & Water Conservation District’s second Belmont Farmer Breakfast Series will take place on the Thursday, February 68:00-9:30 at their offices on Roscoe Road, St. Clairsville 

The topic on February 6 is “Pesticides 101”. Learn about the private applicator’s licensing process and responsible pesticide uses.

Widow’s Luncheon – February 14

The annual Widow’s Luncheon hosted by the Campbell-Plumly-Milburn Funeral Home will take place Friday, February 14 at the Barnesville Library Annex, 611 N. Chestnut Street. The event is free of charge with registration required. Please call the funeral home at (740) 425-1616 by February 7 to RSVP.
