Chautauqua Days Planned in Epworth Park

Epworth Park residents are preparing to celebrate the Chautauqua Day weekend with activities, food, a pageant and more. This 35th annual festival is a celebration of tradition, history and hometown pride.

The festival hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, July 12, and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday, July 13, at Epworth Park, 215 N. Main St., Bethesda. The parade will be at 3 p.m. July 13.

Admission is free to join in the festivities that include vendors, children’s activities, food trucks, live music plus a juried car show Sunday afternoon sponsored by the Union Local Rotary Club.

The full agenda can be viewed on Epworth Park’s website.

Other highlights from the weekend are a white elephant sale, bake sale, balloon artist, fishing tournament, quilt display and auction on the avenue.

Three new events are scheduled this year, including the first Chautauqua Days Pageant, an ice cream parlor at Epworth’s Social Center and a raffle with a chance to win Sun “N” Fun or Backyard Fun prize packages. The tickets are $10. First prize is a seven-day condo trip to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, including airfare from Pittsburgh International Airport. The second prize includes an outdoor projector and screen, griddle, firepit and more.

The funds will go toward the renovation of Epworth Park’s auditorium.

Food trucks will will serve food during the festival. Southpaw Eatz from Wheeling will serve from 11a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, and 12 p.m. to 5 pm Sunday. Two Stack Bar-B-Que from Barnesville will serve food Saturday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. or until sold out each day.

The First Chautauqua Days Pageant will feature 16 girls to compete for the title of Little Miss, Junior Miss and Miss Chautauqua Days 2025.

“We are excited to provide this amazing opportunity to grow our festival and instill confidence and poise in our inaugural court,” director of the pageant, Carrie Lucas, said.

“What makes this special is that it’s not your run of the mill festival that has a lot of noise and is overly crowded,” Secretary of Epworth Park, June Diehl, said. “It’s very laid back.” In addition to the activities, visitors will be able to walk through the tranquil park and enjoy its Victorian cottages and magnificent oak trees.
