Online news source, WorldAtlas, one of the largest publishing resources in geography and other topics it covers, including sociology, demography, environment, economics, politics, and travel, has named Barnesville one of Ohio’s 10 “Hidden Gems”, the best communities for retirees.

“The Buckeye State provides plenty of options for senior citizens to have a gratifying life. Whether drawn to lakefront serenity in Eastlake or easy access to top-tier healthcare in Barnesville, the following make up some of the best towns in Ohio for retirees,” the review noted.

Communities profiled in the article are Cambridge, Eastlake, Toronto, Wapakoneta, Clyde, Sheffield Lake, Marion, Barnesville, Belpre and Bedford.

“Barnesville is a tight-knit community in Belmont County, known for its fair share of communal events that unite everyone. The town hosts the annual Ohio Pumpkin Festival, one of the most anticipated events in the region….numerous historical landmarks, including the Belmont County Victorian Mansion Museum, tell fascinating stories of Barnesville’s dynamic past.

“Residents also look forward to prompt and qualified medical services at WVU Medicine Barnesville Hospital, a 25-bed critical access hospital. Despite all the amenities, Barnesville’s average home price is $180,000, making it one of the best towns in Ohio for retirees”, the report concludes.

Shortly after the news was shared online by the Belmont County Tourism Office, Rose Grear, board member of the Barnesville State Theater Company, added, “Best kept secret. Barnesville shines because of its people. We have easy access to so many amenities, when desired, and the beauty in nature and quiet solitude, when needed.”
