Belmont County Gets Ready for its 176th Fair

Belmont County will celebrate its long-standing and popular fair this upcoming week with livestock shows, truck and tractor pulls and a demolition derby.
Described as a “Family Tradition since 1849”, the fair board of directors plan a week’s worth of festivities that bring in thousands of visitors.
This year’s fair will run Labor Day through Sept. 7 at the Belmont County Fairgrounds, 45420 Roscoe Rd., St. Clairsville. The fair schedule can be found on the Belmont County fair website along with other information.
Admission gates will open at 8 a.m. Tuesday for $5 for Tuesday only price. General admission is $15 Wednesday through Sunday with free entertainment, including grand stands and mechanical rides. A season ticket is $40, which is good each day of the fair. Senior Citizens (age 62 and older with ID) and Veterans (ID required) are admitted free all day Friday. A membership ticket is $25 for gate admission and voting privileges at the annual election. Camper parking is $200. Parking passes are $10 limited to exhibitors.
The fair board includes President Ed Campbell, Vice President Mark Stephens, Secretary Becky Selmon, Assistant Secretary Madyson Little, Treasurer Malissa Campbell, Assistant Treasurer Dawn Warrick and Concessions Manager Kelli Dallas.
The opening ceremonies will take place at noon Monday with county commissioners and dignitaries at the Robinson Stage. Junior fair judging for educational exhibits from 4-H, Future Farmers of America and others will also take place Monday. Junior fair livestock weigh-ins will begin.
Family entertainment will take place all week, including the stone age show, the steamers thrill show, the mobile dairy classroom, the glass blower, wood carving and more. The fair will offer traditional foods, including funnel cakes, fresh-cut fries, lemonade, Italian sausage sandwiches and kettle corn.
The board still has sponsorship opportunities available within the junior fair livestock program.
“Supporting our exhibitors is a wonderful way to invest in our community’s future and show your commitment to local agriculture and youth development,” the website said.
