The primary goal of Epworth Park Foundation is to maintain and improve the park, Secretary June Diehl said.

The park was established in 1870, which developed into a Chautauqua community. Visitors drove horse and buggies or arrived by train.

The park grew from there, but went downhill in the 1960s. Now, volunteers are working to keep the park alive. Many cottages have been renovated.

This past year, Epworth Park was added to the National Register of Historic Places thanks to the research and efforts of the foundation.

“We’re on the road upward, and we want to continue to go on that path,” Diehl said.
