Harry Hunt (1917-2009), a long time member of the Barnesville Kiwanis Club and veteran employee of the Barnesville Columbia Gas operation, was captured hard at work in the kitchen of the First Presbyterian Church in this 1960s photo.
For decades, the club would host the pancake day fundraiser selling meals throughout the day on the last Saturday of October. That evening, the club hosted the Barnesville Halloween Parade, a judged costumed procession of witches, ghosts and goblins along downtown streets. The Barnesville High Marching Band also joined in the fun.
In later years, the parade was moved to the afternoon before it was eventually dropped altogether.

This year the Kiwanis Club will offer pancakes and sausages from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., October 25, at the Assumption Catholic Church. Meals are $10, children $5. A ticketed “country store” will also be offered.
All proceeds are reinvested in youth activities and projects in the greater Barnesville area.
