Annual Santa Spirit Sprint Planned
The Santa Sprint is a racing event that raises money for needy children during Christmas. All money, donations, and gift cards collected are used to purchase gifts, clothes, toys, from the kids’ Christmas Wish Lists. Recipients include a boy and a girl from the Elementary-, Middle-, and High School levels plus, any siblings and other special requests. On average, we fill the Wish Lists of 15-24 less-fortunate children in the area, according to race director Carl Kondrach.
The Title Sponsor since its inception is Ferrum Fit gym located at 130 E. South Street, Barnesville. Also sponsoring the event is State Farm Insurance Agent Lorri Grissel.
The event gets underway at 2:30 p.m. Dec. 6 at 440 Watt Avenue, near the Watt Center for History and the Arts, The Rock and Barnesville Depot.
Traditionally a 1-Miler for the first 14 years, organizers have since added a 5k event. Runners, Walkers, and Chair Athletes may choose one event or the other or both. Special pricing available to those registering to do both events. ALL participants receive a baggie of treats, a ceramic-fired Christmas ornament and jingle bells for their shoes as well as the option to purchase a race shirt. Participants are encouraged to dress up in the holiday spirit and to stick around for the parade immediately after the awards.
All 5k participants are eligible to win one of over 100 beautifully hand-crafted Christmas trophies in the Run, the Walk, or Handcycle/Chair Divisions.

All 1-Mile participants are eligible to win one of 20 ceramic-pottery trophies or age group pottery medallions. Due to the limited number of awards in the Mile, all Milers will earn a finishing medal.
All participants are eligible for one of the 50+ Door Prizes! Some refreshments, including hot dogs, Domino’s pizza, Donley’s Delicious Delights homemade cookies, and hot cocoa, are offered.
Participants are invited to walk up town (about 1/4 mile away) to visit all of the little shops and watch the Christmas Parade that gets underway at 5:30 p.m.
More information on the race including registration forms are may be found on the race website.
