Jack Lee Akers
Jack Lee Akers, 78, of Morristown, Ohio passed away on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. He was born March 23, 1948, Morristown, Ohio, a son of the late Earl Wade and Cecil Estepp Akers.
Jack was a retired coal miner who dedicated more than 50 years of service to the former R&F, Oxford Coal Mines, and CC Coal and Construction. A proud 1966 graduate of Union Local High School, he was a standout basketball player for the Jets during his high school years. Jack was an avid fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes and had a passion for attending car shows and admiring classic muscle cars, especially his beloved Camaro. He also gave back to his community as an assistant coach and for Pony League and then head coach for Rolling Hills Softball. He was a proud member of Friendship Lodge #89 F&AM. Above all, Jack treasured time spent with his family, grandchildren and great grandchildren and was especially known for the joy he brought each Christmas with his thoughtful and memorable gifts.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two brothers, David and Lowell D. Akers; sister, Sharon Graham; and nephews, Rusty Graham and Todd and Larry Akers.
Jack is survived by two daughters, Jackie Riley and Shell (Brent) Harris; sister, Tami (Donnie) Van Fossen; four grandchildren, J.T. (Sam) Riley, Justin (Kallyn) Riley, Jenna (Josh) Mangan and Maddie Vargo; seven great-grandchildren, Kaleigh Riley, Brayden Dyer, Kristopher Riley, Kolby Riley, Mary Jo Riley, Scarlett Riley, Whitley Baker and one great-grandchild on the way; one bonus daughter, Cheryl Akers; two bonus grandkids, Peyton Akers and Scott Wheeler; his four dogs, Bo, Bailey, Barkley and Bingo; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Family and friends will be received on Friday from 5-8 pm at Toothman Funeral Home, St. Clairsville where additional visitation will be held on Saturday from 12pm until time of funeral services at 2 pm with Pastor Nathan McKeen officiating. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery, Morristown, Ohio
