Shamrock Back-to-School Events: Meet the Teams & Open Houses
To get into the school spirit, students, families and community members are invited to attend the Meet the Teams event on Monday, August 17, at the Shamrock Football Stadium starting at 7 o’clock. Athletic passes will be available for purchase as you walk in the gate.
Open Houses in each school building are planned for Tuesday, August 18, from 3-6 p.m. During these events, students and families are welcome. Brian Saner, director of Food and Nutrition, will have a table set up with refreshments and information about the food services in each building.
Elementary Principal Zack Powell recommended that families should come to:
- Meet Your Child’s Teacher – Families can introduce themselves, meet the teacher, and begin building a positive relationship before the first day.
- Help Your Child Feel Comfortable – Students can see their classroom, find their desk, and become familiar with the school before the first morning.
- Learn What to Expect – Teachers can share important information about classroom routines, expectations, supplies, and communication.
Elementary supply lists can be found on the Barnesville Schools website under resources, then student and families, and finally supply lists.
Barnesville PTA will have volunteer sign up sheets at the elementary open house. The parent organization needs assistance with events, fundraisers, classroom support and more.
Middle School Principal Casey Mayo shared that there will be a new student orientation in the middle school gym at 3:30 p.m. during the open house. Fifth grade students, incoming new students and their families are encouraged to attend. Students and families will be able to meet teachers, tour the school and pick up schedules.
The middle school supply lists are posted on the Barnesville Middle School Facebook page.
High School Principal Ron Clark announced that there will be grade level meetings during the open house. The schedule is as follows:
- Seniors — 3:00 to 3:30 p.m.
- Juniors — 3:45 to 4:15 p.m.
- Sophomores — 4:30 to 5:00 p.m.
- Freshmen — 5:15 to 5:45 p.m.
“The open house is designed to provide parents with the information specific to their child’s grade level so that parents are able to help them succeed,” expressed Clark.
For example, scholarships and FAFSA will be discussed at the senior meeting. At the junior meeting, the National Honor Society requirements and the ACT will be included topics. Sophomore students and families will receive information about the end of course exams and college credit plus. Graduation and honor diploma requirements will be topics at the freshmen meeting.
Barnesville students return to school Thursday morning.
