Travis Watts & Mountain Blessings at Pennyroyal Opera House

This Friday, Travis Watts & Mountain Blessings take the stage at the Pennyroyal Opera House. Originating from the historic town of Mount Airy, North Carolina, this group is a high-energy, hard-driving bluegrass band that delights fans with its dynamic harmonies and lightning-fast picking. Multiple first-place awards in individual and band competitions speak to the band and its members’ talent and dedication.

Band leader Travis Watts plays banjo and guitar and sings. Watts received his first banjo for Christmas when he was eight years old. He began taking lessons. Over the years, Watts has expanded his musicianship to include fiddle, guitar, and bass.

Since 2023, Justin Jones has been the lead vocalist and guitarist for Mountain Blessings. Jones is a native of Austinville, Virginia, and has spent over 15 years honing his craft. He is known for his soulful, blues-infused guitar solos and his high-tenor vocals.

Johnathan McHone played the banjo before picking up the dobro. McHone started his musical path by playing in church, singing and playing the piano with his family every week. His dobro playing adds depth and richness to the band’s sound.

Duane Hicks plays the bass and sings baritone vocals for Mountain Blessings. Hicks began playing the bass at age 12, then developing his talent to include guitar and piano. He started in a family bluegrass group with his parents.

Alum Creek will open the show.

Doors and the kitchen open at 5 p.m., with the program starting at 7 o’clock. Tickets are $20 each, and children ages 12 and under are free. Tickets can be purchased at the door with cash only.

The Pennyroyal Opera House Bluegrass Program is operated and managed by an all-volunteer staff.  The Opera House is located in Fairview at the Guernsey-Belmont line, I-70 Exit 198.
