Back to School Fun in the Ville

Over three hundred students attended the Barnesville Back to School Fun in the Ville event on August 7, 2025. The Barnesville Area Chamber of Commerce and the Barnesville Schools coordinated their efforts to create a family-centered evening featuring free school supplies, food, and fun activities.

Title I Coordinator, Melissa Dodd, expressed her gratitude for Chamber Director, Jill Hissom. She continued, “Jill and the Chamber’s involvement make this event a great success by getting local businesses and organizations involved. The participants get to support students and families with needed school supplies and in return get exposure for their business or organization.”

After receiving a backpack and collecting school supplies, students lined up for the dunk tank, sponsored by Rumer-Loudin. Students got a chance to dunk various people, including Superintendent Micah Fuchs and Head Football Coach Blake Allen. Superintendent Fuchs expressed that he was waterlogged from being in the tank for an hour but had a great time.

Other fun activities included face painting, an inflatable, and of course food trucks. The BHS cheerleaders helped with the activities including handing out goody bags to the adults and the inflatables race.

The highlight of the evening was the inflatables race. This year four teams participated in the competition. Kyle Jones was the emcee, announcing the teams and sharing with the crowd that Barnesville had just been named one of Ohio’s Best Hometowns by Ohio Magazine.

For the second year, the Kiwanis Club of Barnesville won the inflatables race. Kiwanis depends on the BHS Key Club for its race participants. According to Key Club advisor Corey Powell, “the inflatable race is a fun activity Key Club members can do to support the Kiwanis Club.”

As a thank you, the Kiwanis Club will present each team member with $25 of Barnesville Gold, which can be utilized at local chamber businesses.
