Captina Creekin’ Fest Draws Hundreds

Captina Conservancy’s fourth annual Captina Creekin’ Festival took place last Saturday afternoon along the South Fork of Captina Creek, between the village of New Castle and Stumptown community in Wayne Township on SR 26.

The highlight of the festival was the return of Steven Moore and Almost Famous band providing live bluegrass music during the three-hour event. Several organizations set up educational displays, and the Ohio University Rural Teachers Corps taped oral history interviews, An art auction and hayrides along the creek were also enjoyed.

The festival is a celebration of Captina Creek, executive director Ellie Ewing said prior to the event. . 

“We have activities that celebrate the natural environment, the animals, the plants,” she said.

She added the festival celebrates the heritage of the people and communities that lived around the creek.
