Event Marks State Theater Centennial

Officers and trustees of the Barnesville State Theater Company welcomed state, county and local officials for a reception marking the 100th anniversary of the opening of the storied movie house on October 24.

State Senator Brian Chavez, State Representative Ty Moore and Belmont County Commissioners Vince Gianangeli and J.P. Dutton offered remarks during the program portion of the reception. They also presented resolutions recognizing the work of the volunteer board to return the theater to productive use.

Citing similar projects, including the Twin City Opera House in McConnelsville, the People’s Bank Theatre in Marietta and closer to home, the Monroe Theater in Woodsfield, Chavez noted facilities like the State Theater are economic engines for small town economies in his district.
