Christmas Ornament Walk Certificates Go on Sale
The Kiwanis Club of Barnesville has launched its second annual Christmas Ornament Walk, a holiday fundraiser supporting local children in need, with 25 businesses and organizations participating.
Businesses, churches and organizations each purchase 144 ornaments with their own funds to give away during the event. Rather than selling the ornaments themselves, Kiwanis sells 144 event certificates to the public for $10 each.
If all certificates are sold, the club will raise at least $1,440. Late in the week, 42 certificates were still available.
For organizations that choose not to give out ornaments, monetary donations are accepted and added to the same fund.
All of the proceeds go to the “Coats and Shoes for Kids” project for students from kindergarten to high school, which provides coats, shoes, and clothes for children. The club works with local school districts that identify and manage the distribution for students in need.
The Ornament Walk takes place the same day as Christmas in the Ville, Dec. 6. Kiwanis will set up its table near Corner Pharmacy starting at 8 a.m., and most participating locations will distribute ornaments between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Inside each certificate is a listing of the places giving out ornaments, their address and the times they will hand out the ornaments.
Businesses will keep ornaments for up to 10 days after the walk for anyone who was unable to take part in the Dec. 6 walk.
Kiwanis Club member Anita Rogers described the ornaments as “beautiful.”
For more information Rogers can be reached at 740-391-4042 or reach out to Becky Wehr of the Kiwanis at 614-302-0451.
“We do not know who we help. We don’t need to know who we help,” Rogers said. “We just need to help people, and that’s what we do.”
