Reverend Dr. Richard Lee Shipley

Reverend Dr. Richard Lee Shipley, age 91, of Hudson, passed away Monday, February 9, 2026.

Richard was born in Flushing, Ohio. He was born after his father’s death and was raised by his mother as the youngest of four brothers. He attended Nyack College and went on to earn a doctorate in theology from Chicago Theological Seminary. He served at North Salem Presbyterian, Longs Run Presbyterian in Calcutta, Ohio, founded the Hudson Presbyterian Church in 1981 (now the First Presbyterian Church of Hudson, Ohio) and Trinity United Presbyterian Church in Lisbon OH. He also served as interim Pastor in several churches: Vienna, Milan, Solon, and Medina.

He enjoyed antiquing and restored and refinished wood furniture. Many of his beautiful pieces have been shared with family and friends.

Richard was the beloved husband of 69 years to the late Marylin (nee Phelps) Shipley; loving father of Samuel (Amy) Shipley and John (Marcy) Shipley; cherished grandparents of Emily (Andrew) Winter, Benjamin Shipley, Adam (Megan) Shipley, Abigail (Daniel) Van Kirk, Amanda (Michael) Ferrari, Annabelle Shipley, Hallie (Brian Munch) Shipley, Kathleen (Ryan) Bowen and Sara (Brian Kurr) Shipley; dear great grandparents of Adalyn & Ethan Winter; Peyton & Millie Shipley; Aiden, Emmett, Elliott, Molly & Mabel Van Kirk; Fletcher, Lyla & Pacey Ferrari; Cameron Chance, Sofia & Jacob Bowen; dear brother of John, Sam, and Virgil; and a cherished uncle and great-uncle of many.

The family will receive friends on February 21 at 11:00 at the First Presbyterian Church of Hudson, 21 Aurora Street, Hudson, Ohio where funeral services will begin at 12:00 noon. Service and Internment at Longs Run Trinity Presbyterian Church, 15851 Longs Church Rd, Calcutta, OH 43920 at 12:00 noon on Monday, February 23, 2026.
