Herschel D. Watson

Herschel D. Watson, 82, of New Concord, passed away on Sunday, February 15, 2026, at home surrounded by his loved ones.

Herschel was born on August 1, 1943, a son to the late Herschel and Mary (Wadsworth) Watson.

Herschel was a member of the Buggy Wheel Horse Club, the Shenandoah Riding Club, NFRA, AQHA, the Moose Lodge and the Eagles. He was a farmer, a 4-H Advisor, and a little league softball coach, and enjoyed going to casinos, fishing, hunting, and his horses. Herschel enjoyed and attended the Quarter Horse Congress. His kids and grandkids were his entire world, and he never missed any of their sporting events. He enjoyed watching football, wrestling, his Westerns, and putting his Corvette in car shows. He worked as an Iron Worker and a Heavy Equipment Operator.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughter, Charlotte Watson, his sisters, Betty Greenwalt and Doris Moore, his brothers, Butch and Johnny, and his son-in-law, Gary Marlatt.

Herschel is survived by his wife, Bertha (Compton) Watson, whom he married on June 17, 1966, his girls, Becky (Michael) Smalley of Cambridge, Chrissy (Mike) Neuhart of Quaker City, Ashley (Kevin) Heskett of New Concord, and Brooke (Sandra) LaRocco of Cambridge, and his sister, Karen Watson of Cambridge.

Also left to cherish his memory are his grandchildren, Clayton (Bailey) Myers, Bentley Johnson, Brittany Hazinakis, Allie Brummett, Kya Heskett, Kaiden Heskett, Lane (Sam) Marlatt, Ashton Marlatt, Heath Watson, Michael Watson, and Kolen Watson, his great-grandchildren, Cam, Autry, Peyton, Kamari, Kobe, Heath, Riley, and Kash, as well as many nieces and nephews, Noah Keen and the Cambridge Wrestling Team and Coaches and Munch Myers and the Myers Family. The family would like to give a special thank you to the Kidney Care and Dialysis team for their exceptional care, the Morris Family, the Neuhart Family, Olivia, Knox, and Nic.

Calling hours will be held Saturday, February 21, 2026, at Thorn Black Funeral Home in Cambridge from 11AM-1PM with the service immediately following. Burial will be held at Northwood Cemetery.
