National FFA Week: Spotlighting the Barnesville Chapter
From February 21 to February 28, the National FFA Organization will celebrate National FFA Week, highlighting the importance of agricultural education, promoting the FFA organization, and honoring the contributions of FFA members to their communities. The Barnesville High School FFA Chapter embodies these qualities throughout the year.
For the first time, Barnesville FFA competed in the Ag Communications Career Development Event (CDE). After the written part of the contest, Barnesville’s team was fourth in the state. The team consisted of seniors Lydia Fuchs and Brooke Watson and juniors Natalie Burkhart and Emma Mazgaj. Twenty teams competed at the in-person event.
Without technology, the FFA members had to attend a press conference and take notes. Photos and video clips were provided to the teams. As a team, they created a social media plan, a feature story, a magazine layout, and a broadcast video. The Barnesville FFA team finished 15th overall.

FFA member Ronnie Duvall won second place at the district level in Extemporaneous Speaking. On March 7, Ronnie will represent Barnesville at the state competition in Marysville, Ohio.
This contest involves randomly picking a topic. The competitor is given 30 minutes to research and prepare. Then they deliver their 4-6 minute speech.
The topic that Ronnie was assigned at districts was “How Housing Systems Affect Livestock Welfare.”
Ronnie said that there are various units with approximately 10 topics. He practices with his parents and advisor.

Fresh from the Florida Farm Bureau, the strawberries have arrived for the Barnesville FFA fundraiser and distributed today for delivery. Unfortunately, the extra flats have all been sold, so you will have to wait until next year for these sweet berries. In addition, the Barnesville FFA Fruit Sale occurs in the fall.
The Barnesville FFA conducts its FFA Week activities in the Spring, as well as hosting its Spring Banquet and the Hoot ‘n’ Holler event.
