Barnesville Eighth Graders Explore Future Careers Through Shadowing Day
Barnesville Middle School eighth graders had the opportunity to step outside the classroom and experience the real world through a career shadowing day on two consecutive Fridays, May 1 and May 8.
Students explored a variety of career pathways, learned directly from professionals in the workforce and gained valuable insight into future opportunities and life beyond school, according to Principal Casey Mayo. From healthcare and education to trades, business and public service, students were able to see firsthand the skills and responsibilities involved in different careers each day.
Students participated in learning about these different career fields, such as industrial business, gas and oil, technology, cyber security, education, farming, concrete, construction, physical therapy, nursing, veterinary medicine and animal science.

“We also want to extend a sincere thank you to our parents and families for your support throughout this project,” a spokesperson shared on a school Facebook post. “A special thank you goes out to all of the businesses, organizations, and professionals who welcomed our students and invested their time into mentoring the next generation.”
