Dysart Woods First Sunday Hike – March 2

The monthly Captina Conservancy hiking series- the first Sunday of every month at Dysart Woods will next take place Sunday, March 2 at 2:00.
Come watch the seasons change, get to know your local woods, meet some new friends, and keep moving! Every month’s hike will have a different theme- this month is Intro to Dysart!
The hike will take about two hours and includes some uneven trails and steep hills. Please bring sturdy shoes and weather appropriate gear. Hikes will be held rain, (snow!), or shine! Water will be provided before and after the hike. Well-behaved dogs on leashes are welcome. Email Marshall with questions at: dysartwoods@captina.org
Note: there are currently no restroom facilities at Dysart Woods so plan accordingly.
2025 Great Stone Viaduct Lecture Series – February 26
The lecture will take place at 6:00 at the Bellaire Public Library. The focus for this event will be “A Historic District for Downtown Bellaire” featuring presenters Betsy Sweeny, building preservation instructor at Belmont College and Jon Smith, Bellaire Historic District committee member.
Those who are not able to attend in person, you can check may view the presentation online on the library’s Facebook page.
Other lectures in the eight-week series that runs through March 26 are:.

- March 12 – Untangling Wheeling history
- March 19 – Backyard flora and fauna

Health Department Outreach – February 26
Representatives from the Belmont County Health Department will be in Barnesville on the afternoon of Wednesday, February 26 from 1:00 to 3:30 at the Barnesville Library Annex, 611 North Chestnut Street.
A variety of harm reduction supplies will be available for county residents including
- Narcan
- Deterra Bags
- STD Testing ($20.00 gift cards for those who qualify)
- Safer Sex Kits

Beallsville Benefit Dinner for Tammy Hudson – March 2
The dinner will take place Sunday, March 2 at 1:00 in the Fellowship Hall of First Christian Church. Tammy Hudson is hospitalized following a stroke. Proceeds will assist with her recovery and rehabilitation.
The meal of chicken noodles, mashed potatoes, green beans, rolls and dessert is a $12 donation.
Carry out or eat in. A raffle and country store will also take place.
1/2 Acre Homesteading Series – March 4
The next ½ Acre Homesteading Series of the Belmont County Soil and Water Conservation District will take place Tuesday, March 4 at the offices on Roscoe Road (Belmont County Fairgrounds). This session will focus on Mushroom identification of edible plants.
The cost of the class is $10. Registration is required by calling (740) 526-0027 or sending an email to belmontswcd.edu@gmail.com.
Ash Wednesday Fish Fry – March 5
The Barnesville Elks Lodge will hold an Ash Wednesday Fish Fry, Wednesday, March 5 from 5:00-7:00 for members and the public. The meal costs $12 and consists of one-piece fish sandwich, French fries, slaw (second piece of fish $4; limited baked potato option available).
Belmont SWCD Breakfast Series – March 6
OSU Extension Belmont County and Belmont Soil & Water Conservation District’s third Belmont Farmer Breakfast Series will take place on the Thursday, March 6 from 8:00-9:30 at their offices on Roscoe Road, St. Clairsville
The topic on March 6 is “Pond Management”. Learn how to manage your pond. Instructors will teach participants on strategies to combat invasive plants, proper fish stocking and basic management.

Spaghetti Dinner – March 7
The American Legion Riders, Post #168 is sponsoring a spaghetti dinner at the American Legion Banquet Room, Friday, March 14 from 4:00 – 7:00, dine in or take out. The cost of a meal is $12 that includes spaghetti, salad, dessert and drink.
Walleye Fish Fry – March 14
A Walleye Fish Fry to benefit t he Raven Meadows School will take plac at the Pole Barn, 20302 New Gottengen Road, Salesville, Friday, March 14. Serving begins at 4:00. A benefit raffle is currently underway to benfit the school. Tickets are $20 or 6 for $100.
Facebook Paranormal Event Focuses on Enterprise Building – March 14
Local resident Guy McCort, author, creator and Host investigator at Valley Of Darkness.
Star of Feature film The Darkness On Church street, will host a Facebook Live event on Friday, March 14 at 9:00 pm.
“Tune in to this live event on Facebook for the first ever paranormal investigation in this local landmark where the Enterprise newspaper was ran for many years, before becoming defunct. The new owners are restoring the magnificent historical landmark that has had some unexplainable things happen.
At post time, 134 have expressed an interest in the event.
