Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast, Projects Support Local Youth

Members of the Barnesville Kiwanis Club hosted their annual fall fundraiser, Pancake Day Breakfast, on Saturday, October 24. Over 400 pancake and sausage meals were served.

Members’ efforts are boosted by the 166-member Barnesville High School Key Club, under the direction of Kiwanian Corey Powell, who generously donate their time for the project.

The financial success of the project also depends on the generosity of local businesses, organizations and individuals including the following 2026 in-kind and cash donors:

Joel Braido/Braido Memorials, Sulek and Experts Realtors, Rumer-Loudin, Inc., Village Hardware and Rental, Aire Beauty Bar, J-Mo Meats, Barnesville Veterinary Services, WVU Medicine/Barnesville Hospital, Barnesville Area Chamber of Commerce, Barnesville Area News Company, Assumption Catholic Church, Woodsfield Savings Bank, Campbell-Plumly-Milburn Funeral Home, Riesbeck’s Markets, Joe’s Tire, Barnesville McDonalds, Barnesville Mothers Club and Hissom’s Service Center.

Winners of the “Country Store” Chinese auction and raffle that day were Nick Saffield, Terry Smith, Jase Hendershot, Shelley Campbell, Jimmy Grear, Donna Clark, Mary Kidd and Kati Anderson.  Lola Knox won the raffle and chose to donate the winnings back to the club for youth projects.

Two current projects for the club are purchasing Shamrock sweatshirts for all new students in the Barnesville School District and, this year, expanding that to all Olney Friends School students.

During the holidays, the club also purchases Christmas gifts for anonymous Barnesville Schools students whose families are unable to afford to buy them.

For anyone interested in joining in the good work of the group, the club meets each Monday for a lunch meeting at the Main Street Barrel House Bistro, 137 E. Main Street.

Pancake Day dates to the early days of the 78-year-old club. Pancakes were offered all day up through the dinner hour. That was followed by a downtown costumed Halloween Parade that also included the BHS band. Cash prizes were awarded in a variety of categories.

Later, the parade was moved to midday and finally dropped altogether.
