Barnesville BOE Honors Local Businesses
At the May 16 Board of Education Meeting, members accorded local businesswoman Amy Kemp, the Ohio School Board Association “Honor Roll” designation. Kemp, owner of Flag Floors and Beeology, constantly supports Barnesville Schools, superintendent Micah Fuchs said. From contributions of cash to complimentary items for school programs, projects, and students, Kemp goes above and beyond in her support of the local school district.
High Speed Chase Ends in Arrests
A police chase that spanned four counties – Fairfield to Belmont – to just east of Barnesville Exit, #202, last Saturday afternoon with the arrest of the driver and passenger. For a period, the highway was closed as both suspects barricaded themselves refusing to exit the vehicle.
According to published reports, Jamey Friend, 46, of West Virginia and Deidra Hines of Parkersburg, were arrested, jailed in Belmont County Jail, facing charges they allegedly led law enforcement in the high-speed 6chase. Charges also include tampering with evidence, receiving stolen property, drug possession, drug paraphernalia and illegal drug use, obstructing and failure to comply with law enforcement.
Bethesda Intersection Project Moving Forward
A legal notice in the Times Leader this past week sheds light on the impending SR 147 (Maple Avenue) and Main Street (CR 26) intersection in Bethesda. The Belmont County Transportation Improvement District will open bids on June 12 for contractors interested in “widening and paving of an existing intersection with traffic control,” the legal notice reveals.
Work on the project must be completed by November 22, 2024, the notice states. The project is being managed by the Belmont County Port Authority.
SR 379 Slip Project Planned
The Ohio Department of Transportation announced this week that a project that will repair a slip along SR 379 in Somerset Township south of SR 147 and north of Temperanceville will commence May 29. The $480,000 project will include installation of a 186-foot shaft retaining wall as well as removing and replacing existing pavement and two existing culverts.
The project which is expected to be completed by October 31 will include a temporary signal to maintain traffic flow over an 11-foot-wide traffic lane.
