BHS Art Students Display Their Creativity

Principal’s Choice Award winner Karter Kaplet with Barnesville High School principal Ron Clark.

Springtime at Barnesville High School means that it is time for the BHS Art Show. This year’s show was held May 13-15 in the school’s gymnasium. The tradition continued with senior art students displaying their works on decorated tables. Other featured artwork was hung on the walls and spread throughout the room. This annual art show gave the students a chance to showcase their creative talents and let family and friends view their works.

Each year, the high school principal awards the Principal’s Choice Award. Principal Ron Clark selected a white charcoal drawing titled Best Friend. The artist is Karter Kaplet, and the artwork will hang in the high school office for the coming school year.

When asked about his selection, Principal Clark said, “This dog drawing, especially its eyes, looks very realistic. I love dogs, and the piece spoke to me.”

“I took art class because drawing was a major outlet for me during the pandemic, and I wanted to see how I could continue to get better at it. Now I am going to Kent State to become an art teacher.”

— Kendol Morris

“I have taken art all four years, because the class has brought me a lot of joy and memories. The art room is my favorite place in the school, as drawing is my most loved pastime.”

— Carson Burkhart

“The assignments provide me with a creative outlet. I enjoy working on projects while socializing. It’s a break from the stress that other classes produce.”

— Fallyn Sellers

“I love being challenged in a creative way. This class has also taught me many skills that I can use for my future career.”

— Lilly Welch

“I love the class due to the nature of it and the community. It keeps me consistently creating even if I feel unmotivated in my free time, and the kids are very positive to each other about their works.”
