Six citizens applied for the two open village council seats by the Wednesday afternoon deadline, according to Mayor Jake Hershberger.
Letters of interest were submitted by six residents
o Brad English, West Main Street
o Jonathan Flood, N. Lincoln Avenue
o Brad Hudson, E. Pike Street
o Zach Leach, Morgantown Avenue
o Mark Lucas, N. Lincoln Avenue
o Tim McKelvey, Grace Avenue
McKelvey and Hudson have served in the Past. In fact, McKelvey has twice retired when he chose not to run for reelection. McKelvey was named to fill the unexpired term of Jamie Betts who also stepped down.
Lucas was one of the candidates who ran in 2023 when voters returned Terry McCort and favored Robin Misner for the two seats up for election.
Council will meet early at 6:00 pm this coming Monday, February 24 to consider each candidate. Interviews will take place in Executive Session following which the remaining four members are expected to approve two nominees for the open seats during the public session.
This process was initiated following the resignations of Steven Hill and Brian Yarnall on January 28. Both were elected to council in 2021 for four-year terms that end on December 31.
The new council members will complete these terms. Both seats will be up for election along with two others on November 4. Independent candidates have until May 5 to submit petitions for that election.
