Pumpkin Festival Name Ribbon Cutter and Parade Grand Marshal

Former Belmont County Sheriff Dave Lucas will serve as  Grand Marshal for the 2025 Barnesville Pumpkin Festival parade on Saturday, September 27.

The Somerton native got his start in law enforcement at the Barnesville Police Department. He concluded a 46-year career in the field earlier this year serving as county sheriff from 2013-2025.

In making the announcement, the festival committee posted on social media that “Lucas has been a steadfast pillar of our community – a beloved community member who has made a lasting impact through his dedication, service, and pumpkin-loving spirit!”

“Whether you’ve seen him at local events, cheering from the sidelines, or lending a helping hand where it’s needed most, Dave embodies everything the Barnesville Pumpkin Festival stands for: community, tradition, and fun”.

The festival committee also shared the name of the official Ribbon Cutter for the Festival during opening ceremonies, Thursday, September 25.

Jackee Pugh, director of the Belmont County Tourism Council “has been a familiar and friendly face throughout our community for years – always ready with a warm smile, a helping hand, and a heart for service,” the social media post noted.

“Her dedication to Barnesville, Belmont County Tourism, and love for our hometown traditions make her the perfect person to kick off this year’s festival!”

The 61st annual festival will fill the streets of downtown Barnesville September 25-28.
