Neptune Recaptures King Pumpkin Crown

New Concord’s Bill Neptune claimed the King Pumpkin title Wednesday night at the 2025 Barnesville Pumpkin Festival Weigh Off. The 1,952 pound winning entry provided the veteran pumpkin grower with a handsome prize of $3,904, or $2 a pound.

Two Years ago, Neptune claimed the top prize with an entry of 1,950 pounds.

Last year, considered an ideal growing year, saw the King Pumpkin tipping the scales at 2,196 pounds for an orb grown by Lee and Derrik Zappa of Mercer PA.

Winning the Barnesville Pumpkin Festival crown is old hat for Neptune who has grown giant pumpkins for a quarter of a century. In fact, this year was his fifth win at the Barnesville Show.

He also won the competition in 2009, 2010, 2019 and 2023 with entries ranging from 1,479 pounds to 1,950, his winning entry two years ago.
