Squashcarver Returns
Once again, Guy Smithhisler, professional pumpkin carver and food artist from Columbus, came to Barnesville to share his artistic talents with festivalgoers.
Smithhisler, known throughout the region for his carved 3D images on fruits and vegetables since 2001, was featured on season six of The Food Network’s Halloween Wars.

His work this year features a “Barnesville” banner hoisted by OSU’s Brutus Buckeye!

The giant pumpkin donated for carving this year was Derek Crabtree’s 980 pound entry. Crabtree, a Circleville resident, claimed 10th place in the King Pumpkin weigh off.
The carving will be on display through late Sunday afternoon near the King Pumpkin display.
Smithhisler’s appearance at the 2025 festival was sponsored by Triburon Oil and Gas, a Houston, Texas, Utica Shale developer, that is currently developing a pad southeast of Baileys Mills in Somerset Township. Read more about Triburon here.
