Barnesville Pumpkin Festival to Showcase Classic Car Show on Sunday

The Barnesville Pumpkin Festival Antique and Classic Car Show will return Sunday with cars entered from across the region.

The show’s registration will begin at 9 a.m. to noon Sunday, with the show running until approximately 4 p.m. at Barnesville High School. The entry fee is $20.

A free shuttle transporting car show attendees from the downtown festival area will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The downtown pick up site is at Ohio Hills Health Center opposite the King Pumpkin display.

The more than 50-year tradition is one of the largest car shows in the area, with vehicles from Ohio, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Michigan and Indiana.

Dash plaques and pumpkin trophies are awarded to the first 300 cars registered. The top 75 overall entries will receive awards, and a “Best of Show” trophy will be given. A special “Jackie Huntsman Memorial Trophy” will be awarded by the family, too. The car show committee will judge the cars around 3 p.m.

The event will also feature door prizes, food and music.

Some years draw more than 300 cars, while others attract as few as 75 with weather a major contributing factory. With preregistration eliminated, organizers won’t know the final count until the day of the event.

This event gives a lot of retired coal miners and steel workers an opportunity to bring out their classic cars, committee member Dan Longenette said.

He added millions of dollars worth of cars, owned by residents around the Barnesville area that people don’t know exist, are displayed at the show.

Owners park their cars, pop their hoods and trunks, roll down windows and show off their cars at the show. Longenette added some cars even have original window stickers on them.
