Education Foundation Grant Awards Total Almost $35,000
BARNESVILLE -The Barnesville Area Education Foundation (BAEF) provides funds for local education systems and improvements that might not otherwise be available through public funding.
The Foundation has a grant review committee comprised of a chairman and individuals who are responsible to evaluate, review and approve or deny, grant submissions. This Grant Committee meets periodically to evaluate grants submitted by teachers and approved by principals and the superintendent.
At the April 13 BAEF Trustees Meeting, members approved seven grants totaling $34,934.33 for projects in Barnesville Schools.
Projects Funded
Flexible Seating for 5th Grade Social Studies – $2,000.01 (requester: Anna Jefferis)
Art/Culture/History Field Trip to Pittsburgh – $1,250.00 (requester: Chris Pack)
Kitchen Set for Kindergarten Instruction – $1,400.00 (requester: Brandi Antolak)
Novels for Grades 11 and 12 – $567.00 (requester: Tricia Zaccagnini)
Replacement of The Giver Novels* for 6th Grade – $176.32 (requester Alesa Stephens)
*The Giver by Lois Lowry is a classic young adult novel written in 1993.
Sound System for H.S. Gymnasium – $29,541.00 (requester Adam Quirk)
Items for Students with Disabilities** – $999.83 (requester Jamie Bauman)
** This grant was funded out of the Hanlon Fund (officially the Hanlon Memorial Grant), a specific educational fund within the larger organization, established by bequest from late BHS grad Thomas “Tap” Hanlon to support special educational needs.
