Up, Up and Away

Hundreds of visitors and area residents made the short trip west of town Saturday to take in the popular Airport Day at Barnesville-Bradfield Airport. They were greeted with the opportunity to take an airplane ride, see a medical transport helicopter, talk with members of the Barnesville Fire and EMS and meet Belmont County Sheriff James G. Zusack or Ohio State Highway Patrol recruitment officer Nicholas R. Smith.

Free Airport Day tee shirts and free food were handed out while meals from Two Stack B-B-Que or Slushies by the Barnesville Dairy Queen were available for purchase.

Younger attendees found Balloon Lady Johnna Rockwell, the Karma Face Painting artist and the Bounce House irresistible. Free cotton candy and Cracker Jacks were also popular.

Plane tickets were snapped up by 11 am.

Unfortunately, a National Weather Service warning about a severe storm approaching from the west forced an early end to Airport Day. By 2 p.m., the originally planned end of the event, the Barnesville area was experiencing heavy rain accompanied by wind and lightning.
