Ohio State Highway Patrol Investigating Five Vehicle Crash

ST. CLAIRSVILLE – The Ohio State Highway Patrol, St. Clairsville Post, is currently investigating a five-vehicle serious injury crash that occurred on I-70 near mile marker 202 in Kirkwood Township at approximately 3:47 a.m. Monday, June 8.
A 2018 Honda Civic was traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes of I-70 when it struck a 2018 Jeep Wrangler traveling eastbound head on. The Honda Civic traveled off the left side of the roadway into an embankment. A 2023 Mercedes GLS , 2023 International LT62F and a 2019 Nissan Kicks were traveling eastbound when they subsequently struck debris from the crash.
The driver of the Jeep Wrangler was transported by responding emergency medical services to West Virginia University Medicine- Wheeling Hospital with serious injuries. The passenger of the Jeep Wrangler was also transported with minor injuries.
The driver of the Nissan Kicks was transported by responding emergency medical services to West Virginia University Medicine – Wheeling Hospital with minor injuries.
Responding agencies assisting on scene were Barnesville Fire/EMS, Fairview VFD, Cumberland Trail Fire Department, Bill’s towing, Pine Tree Towing, T & K Towing, Stephen’s Towing and Braden’s A-1 Towing.
Alcohol is a suspected factor in this crash.

The Fairview VFD shared additional details on the accident and injuries sustained in a Facebook Page Release.
At 03:49 this morning Fairview and Barnesville fire and EMS crews were dispatched to I-70 Eastbound at the 200-mile marker for a two-vehicle head on crash with reported entrapment.
Fairview Engine 95-4 and Squad 95-2 responded with five personnel.
While in route OSHP troopers arrived on scene at mile post 202 and confirmed one entrapment with a patient pinned under an overturned vehicle.
Barnesville EMS units arrived on scene and began patient assessment and requested a helicopter.
Fairview units arrived on scene with the crew from Engine 4 developing a plan to lift the vehicle.
Hydraulic Spreaders from Fairview Engine 4 and Barnesville Engine 12 were used to lift the vehicle and remove the patient.
The patient was alert and talking with emergency crews during the extrication.
Due to the time for a medical helicopter to arrive the patient was transported by ground by Barnesville EMS with the second patient from the vehicle transported by Fairview EMS.
A third patient was transported by Cumberland Trail EMS. Four additional patient refusals were obtained by Engine crews on scene.
As of 05:30, I-70 Eastbound remained closed at the 202 mile marker.
