State Grant Awarded for Pisgah Road Improvements

Project will Support Tourism Growth at The Farm at Old World Garden

Press Release

QUAKER CITY – The Farm at Old World Garden would like to express its sincere appreciation to the Cambridge-Guernsey Community Improvement Corporation (CIC) for its efforts in securing a $283,750 Roadwork Development Grant from the Ohio Department of Development for improvements to Pisgah Road in Oxford Township.

The grant was awarded to the Guernsey County Commissioners and is part of nearly $850,000 recently announced by the Ohio Department of Development through programs designed to support economic development, infrastructure improvements, and job creation across Ohio.

Funding from the grant will help improve Pisgah Road (County Road 94) by resurfacing approximately 3,000 linear feet of roadway and paving approximately 2,100 linear feet that is currently gravel. These improvements are intended to accommodate increased tourism traffic traveling to The Farm at Old World Garden and also in anticipation of the opening of the Grassland Gardens in 2027, which will be a 9-acre ornamental grass garden open to the public.

“We are extremely grateful to the CIC for recognizing the importance of this project and working to secure this funding,” said Jim and Mary Competti, owners of The Farm at Old World Garden. “We also want to thank the Guernsey County Commissioners and Guernsey County Engineer’s office for their support throughout the process. This project represents a true partnership between local and state organizations working together to encourage economic growth and tourism in our community.”

Since purchasing the property in 2020, The Farm at Old World Garden has invested heavily into transforming the site into a tourism destination that includes gardens, lodging, event venues, hiking trails, educational programs, and special events. Recent additions include construction of Phase 1 of the Grassland Gardens, a new event center, expanded lodging options, and additional recreational amenities.

The Farm at Old World Garden will also be contributing a portion of the funding needed for the roadway improvements, reflecting its ongoing commitment to investing in the property and supporting long-term growth in Guernsey County.

The Ohio Department of Development noted that the project is expected to support the creation of up to five jobs, three of which have already been created. Beyond employment opportunities, the road improvements will help provide safer and more reliable access for the thousands of visitors who travel to the farm each year.

The Campetti’s credited the CIC, the Guernsey County Commissioners, Guernsey County Engineer, and the Ohio Department of Development for helping make this important infrastructure project possible and for supporting the continued growth of tourism and economic development in Guernsey County.

The Farm at Old World Garden is located east of Middlebourne, south of Bridgewater Road at 65780 Pisgah Road, Quaker City. The website for the farm is https://www.owgarden.com/ .
