Baseball: Butler, Blon Awarded All-Eastern District Honors
BARNESVILLE — Barnesville High School’s varsity baseball team has already had an impressive run this season. Just a few days ago, the Shamrocks won the 2026 Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) Division V Eastern District Championship.
Head Coach D.J. Butler has been vocal about how well his players performed to win under that type of pressure.
“I’m incredibly proud of our players and coaches for winning the district title,” Butler said. “It takes a tremendous amount of determination and grit, and they have displayed both throughout the tournament.”
Historically, this ballclub is one of eight teams to have won 20 or more games in a season. Butler has been a part of four of those teams. He and some of Barnesville’s current players were recognized by the OHSAA for their efforts on the field this season.
Butler was awarded Coach of the Year for Division V schools, and senior right-handed pitcher Dylan Blon won Pitcher of the Year for Division V as well.

“I’m glad to have won this,” Blon said. “I’ve been pitching all throughout high school, and I’ve really worked hard to be as good as I am.”
Likewise to Blon, some of his teammates were acknowledged by the OHSAA and earned First Team and Second Team honors.
For First Team for Division V, Blon, junior Blake Burkhart and senior Max Miller were named. Sophomore Gunner Dudzik was named Second Team for Division V.
“I’m very proud of our players being recognized for well-deserved honors,” Butler said. “Parker Sobutka was also recognized by the OVAC and Buckeye 8. Those who were recognized would be the first to say their success is a total team effort.”
This Barnesville Shamrock team looks to continue that effort as they will face the Harrison Central Huskies Tuesday on the road in an elimination game.
The regional semifinal matchup between these two teams will start at 5 p.m. and at Mazeroski Field in Cadiz.
