Shamrock Theater Sets Record Ticket Sales

When the final curtain was closed on The Wizard of Oz, the cast and crew, consisting of 90 Barnesville students, made some Shamrock theater history. This season, there were three sold-out shows out of a total of six. Also, 2,543 tickets were sold this season, which is a record. Previously, the record was 2,223 tickets for High School Musical, last year’s production.

“Exceptional performances were had all the way around. From leads, to ensemble, to our stellar backstage crew, to beauty crew, and to tech crew, everybody worked really hard to make the shows special,” stated Director Devin Blair. He continued, “Whether it was testing this new whacky idea I had, organizing the prop room, or painting backdrops, these students were so good at seeing what needed to be done and putting in the elbow grease.”

Theater returned to Barnesville High School in 2011 with You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown. Assistant Director Heather Eberhart commented, “Seeing so many alumni from past productions return for The Wizard of Oz was truly special.” She added, “It means the world to witness not just the growth of our program, but the lasting impact it’s had on everyone who has been a part of it.”

The Barnesville Area Education Foundation supported the Shamrock Theater with a $10,000 grant. These monies supported the purchase of the production rights, special technical effects, and costumes.

In addition to the students, many Barnesville staff members played a significant role in the production’s success. Local businesses and organizations supported the show through invitations to speak at meetings, program advertising, and donations. Parents and family members volunteered countless hours during the season.

Finally, the students and staff would like to thank the family and community members who took the time to attend The Wizard of Oz and experience the fruits of their hard work. Through this support, the Barnesville students learned that there is no place like Barnesville, their home.
