Softball: Shamrocks Fall to Edison Wildcats 14-5 on Senior Night

The Barnesville Shamrocks (12-12 overall, 5-3 conference) fell 14-5 to the visiting Edison Wildcats (15-9 overall, 6-2 conference) Wednesday, May 6 at Barnesville Memorial Park despite out-hitting the visitors 12 to 11. Peyton Loudin and Ella Betts each collected three hits for the Shamrocks.

Edison got on the board in the second inning after a double by Alivia Hanlin, scoring one run, an error scored one run. 

Joining her were teammates Paige Sommerville who had a single which scored two runs, and Abby Boka with a single and scored one run.

Edison scored six runs on three hits in the top of the fourth inning. Sophia Henderson tripled, scoring three runs, an error scored one run, Chloe Peckens singled, scoring one run, and an error scored one run.

Betts opened the game for Shamrocks. The starter allowed nine hits and 13 runs over four and one-third innings, striking out seven and walking five.

Barnesville collected 12 hits in the game. Roselyne Anderson and Sophie Carpenter were a one-two punch in the lineup, as each drove in two runs for the Shamrocks. Abygail Ady collected two hits for her team while taking the plate four separate times. 

Edison collected 11 hits in the game. Boka, Peckens, Henderson and Hanlin each collected two hits for Edison. Henderson went 2-for-4 at the plate and led the team with three runs batted in. 

Brea Shrieve and Boka each stole multiple bases for Edison. Edison had a strong eye at the plate with five walks in the game. Edison amassed 11 stolen bases for the game. Edison turned one double play in the game.

Barnesville’s scheduled game for Friday, May 8, has been cancelled. Athletic Director Brad Hannahs is trying to schedule a game next week, but that is undetermined at this time.  

The next scheduled game is the Sectional Tournament game May 18, with the location and opponent to be determined.
