Softball: Shamrocks’ Season Ends with Loss to Coshocton

The Barnesville Shamrocks’ 2026 varsity softball season ended Monday at home with an 8-4 sectional loss to the visiting Coshocton Redskins. Both teams entered the game at .500, Barnesville as the No. 8 seed, Coshocton, No. 10.

Barnesville recorded four runs on eight hits while recording four errors. Coshocton tallied eight runs on seven hits and had five errors.

Freshman Alianna Tittle led the way with three hits and two RBI’s for the Redskins. For the Shamrocks, senior Becklee Oliver recorded three hits.

Most of the Redskins’ offense came in the first inning. Ella Betts started on the mound for the Shamrocks, and she had one strikeout, walked four batters and allowed two hits.

Head Coach Kelly Hanlon made a quick decision retiring Betts and replacing her with junior Peyton Loudin.

Coshocton tallied six runs total in the top of the first. In the bottom, Barnesville was unable to get on the board.

The Shamrocks struggled in the batter’s box against the Redskins’ starting pitcher, right-hander Savannah Gambill. In seven innings pitched, Gambill had nine strikeouts in the seven-inning game allowing a single earned run.

In the third and fourth inning, Barnesville had the chance to possibly tie or take the lead with the bases loaded each frame.  However, Gambill’s pitching and tight defense from her teammates prevented that.

In the fifth, Betts got to home plate and Barnesville on the board thanks, in part, to an RBI by Loudin.

In the top of the sixth, Jazlene Brown tallied a two RBI single that brought in Paiten Gambill and Jaelyn Allen for a total of 8 runs.

The home team went on for a little run in the bottom of the seventh.

With runners on first and second, Roselynn Anderson hit an RBI double. Complimenting Anderson’s efforts was teammate Sophie Carpenter, who had a two RBI single.

Down four runs, Barnesville hoped to keep the hitting streak going. But, the final two Shamrocks were struck out, resulting in an 8-4 final score in favor of the Redskins.

Coshocton, 14-13 overall, moves on to face Tuscarawas Valley for the sectional final Wednesday night.
