Depot, Caboose Open for Alumni Parade
The recently reroofed Barnesville Depot will be open for BHS alumni who gather on the train station grounds for the 5th Annual ‘All Grad’ Parade on Saturday. Members of the Barnesville Depot Committee will be on hand from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
This is the first official opening of the depot in almost a decade. It was rented to a driving school, transportation agency and, more recently, the firm working on the nearby tunnel and walking trail.
The committee will also open the depot, building and grounds for the upcoming Barnesville Pumpkin Festival. On three festival days, train rides will be offered for “children of all ages” when the Little Roaming Railroad makes its debut in Barnesville. Historic displays will also return to the building during the festival.

The Barnesville B & O Depot was constructed by the railroad company in 1916-17, part of a company capital program. Passenger traffic ended on June 30, 1961. The company continued to use the building for freight until 1983. Two years later, the tracks were removed.
The community purchased the building and grounds in 1991 following a six-month fund drive that raised the needed $125,000 to make the purchase.
The Barnesville B & O Depot was added to the National Register of Historic Places on August 8,1985.
