Honoring the Legacy: A Seven-Year Memorial Lecture Series

FLUSHING – The Underground Railroad Museum Ohio Valley will host a one-day Memorial Lecture Series as “a powerful day of education, reflection, and community”. The lecture will take place beginning at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 18, at the museum located at 121 High Street, Flushing.

The museum will move later this year to the Black Horse Inn in Morristown. This event will be the last public programming in the museum’s original home.

The special event is dedicated to honoring the profound legacy of Dr. John Mattox, museum founder, on the 7th anniversary of his passing.

Throughout the day, Museum Director Kristina Estle will deliver a series of five historical presentations. Each lecture will begin promptly at the top of the hour, “tracing the profound journey of African American history from regional local resistance to the national struggle for equality,”,a release noted.  

Visitors are welcome to attend individual sessions or take in the entire series.

Admission to the museum and lectures is $10 per person, or $20 for a family.

Presentation Schedule:

10:00 a.m. – The Underground Railroad in Belmont County
11:00 a.m. – Black Women in History
12:00 p.m. – The History of Juneteenth
1:00 p.m. – The Civil Rights Movement
2:00 p.m. – Lynching in Ohio
