‘Happy Birthday USA’ Fun in the Ville Highlights

A fair number of people braved the intense heat Wednesday night to take in the Barnesville Chamber’s July Fun in the Ville event on the West Main Street parking lot.

Highlighting the event was the unveiling of the village’s newest downtown mural. It was unveiled at 4 p.m. by Mayor Jake Hershberger. He and Chamber President John Rataiczak provided remarks thanking the citizens who painted the tiles, Dave Rucker who assembled the tiles on the mural, and donors including Grenadier Energy III, Belmont County Tourism Council and the Village of Barnesville.

The 8’ x 8’ mural consists of the artwork of hundreds of area residents who each painted a tile that is now merged into a single image. The mural contains 350 tiles.

Also drawing attention were Apple Pie Baking and Apple Pie Eating contests. Sponsor of this special America 250 Event was the Kinder Kare Agency, LLC, local home health care agency.

Judges for the event were Rev. Tom Detling, Jacob Anderson and Britany Hercules.

The winners of the apple pie eating contest were chosen in two divisions – adults and children.

Adult winners were Derrick Toliver, first, and Shane Leek, second.

Children’s division winners were Taryn Howland, first place; Savvanh Gallaher, second.

In addition to the unveiling and contests, children’s activities were enjoyed and food trucks on hand offering tasty food and sweet desserts.
